NEEDING THE LIGHT
14th Feb 2018
I’m sure you have experienced searching for something and failing because of inadequate light, and you call for a better light source and look again in the same place and locate the missing object. What was hidden in now visible, and what was lost is found!
Over the years I have spent much time looking for contact lens, which I know must be in a particular place, but without enough light and without clear vision they have been almost impossible to locate.
Apply this to tricky pastoral situations; you know the area of the pain and the problem but the enlightenment you have is not enough. Job’s friends counselled out of human wisdom, out of their experience, when they needed God to give them light and clarity. The problem was beyond their experience and human knowledge.
Psalm 36:9 says, “For with you is the fountain of light, in your light we see light.” Jesus said that those who seek will find. Daniel faced with a similar dilemma gets his friends to pray and fast, waits for God’s light giving revelation in what was for them was a life and death situation. Daniel 2:23 declares, “I thank and praise you, O God of my fathers: you have given me wisdom and power, you have made known to me what we asked of you, you have made known to us the dream of the king.”
So it is with friends who are suffering but need answers in order to be specific in prayer and see complete healing and deliverance. Acts 13:2 gives us a key, when light and guidance was needed. “While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit spoke.” His revelation, light, presence, and words released action.
Don’t rely on what you know and your experience, take heed to Job 32:8, “It is God’s Spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty One, that makes wise human insight possible. The experts have no corner on wisdom; getting old doesn’t guarantee good sense.”
