THE NAME OF JESUS
30th Apr 2025
There is a wonderful passage of scripture in Philippians chapter 2. It describes how Jesus willingly took the nature of a servant, humbling Himself and becoming obedient to death on the cross. Verses 9-11 state that, “God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”
Luke 22:66-71 describes the scribes and pharisees mocking Jesus, asking if He was the Messiah. Jesus states that, “the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of mighty God.” In the Message it reads, “So here’s what I have to say: From here on the Son of Man takes his place at God’s right hand, the place of power.”
Jesus has a Name above all names, and He has taken His place at God’s right hand - the place of power. Think about this. You and I as believers have been given authority to use His Name. In His Name to address mountains and command them to move. To rebuke sickness, and devils, and anything that opposes God’s will.
I often hear believer’s praying and asking God to do things, but He has given us the right to speak, using His Name and Authority. Read through the gospels and see how Jesus commanded sickness to leave, eyes and ears to open, Lazarus to come out of the grave. May our eyes be open to the resources we have been given and may we use them to see people healed and released today. Not our power and authority, but using the ultimate power of Jesus’ Name and position.
Years ago, a young girl in China was walking in a lonely place and a man tried to attack her. She was a new believer in Jesus, and shocked the man as she said, “You will not touch me in the Name of Jesus.” He froze, and couldn’t move. He was like a statue with arms reaching out to grab her, but immobile. She saw what had happened and ran into the next village to find help.
On hearing her story, many came to see him. He was alive, but unable to move or speak, and no-one knew what to do. Eventually some believers arrived and heard the girl’s story. They felt that she could release him in the Name of Jesus. She told him he had tried to attack her and he needed to repent and ask for forgiveness, and she would pray for him.
The presence and fear of God was tangible. She then spoke and prayed and the paralysis was removed. Many who saw this came to faith. She had nothing but Jesus and His wonderful Name, but He has the Name that is above every name and rules from the place of power.
Let’s listen to His instructions and use His Name.
