MAKING A WAY
15th Jan 2025
We are living in a very difficult time in our world situation. Circumstances are constantly trying to undermine our peace and daily living. But as believers we have access to strength, wisdom and resources that are unique to followers of Jesus.
Another of those older songs came to mind -
“He can make a way where there isn't a way
That's what the love of God can do
Everything can start new every day
That's what the love of God can do”
Alongside this I was reminded of the verse in Isaiah 43:19 where it states, “I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
It sometimes feels as though the pathway ahead of us is too difficult. Are we going to be swallowed up in the problems that surround us? Psalm 84:5-6 says, “Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage. As they pass through the valley of Baca they make it a place of springs…they go from strength to strength.”
When we have set our hearts to follow the Lord, and are seeking to be disciples of Jesus, we will receive wisdom and strength which is beyond the natural. Not only will we get strength, but we will be refreshed. Psalm 63:1 speaks of living in a “dry and parched land where there is no water.” But in Psalm 68:9 says, “You gave abundant showers, O God; you refreshed your weary inheritance.”
I remember a time when we had planned a Worship Night in church; as the time came near it seemed the last thing I wanted to do. But having made the commitment I went! Being surrounded by praise and in the presence of the Lord all my weariness fell away and I left at the end of the evening refreshed and strengthened.
God has made available to His people wisdom and joy which the world does not have. It is easy to be sucked into the ‘spirit of the age’ and all the negativity and heaviness that is in the world around us when we have access to God’s resources in our lives, and His joy which is our strength.
