LIVING IN TECHNICOLOUR
22nd Feb 2023
Last Friday I was privileged to lead the funeral service for a 91 year old lady who had been full of joy and Jesus all the time I had know her. As the tributes were given I learned the secret, something I had never heard before.
Eileen came to faith as an adult, and the morning after she had received Jesus, she looked out of the window of her home and exclaimed, “Look at that garden and all those amazing colours, I’ve never seen anything like it before.” From that moment her life was a bright shining light always pointing to Jesus.
Psalm 119:130 says, “The entrance of your word gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.”
There is also a great testimony in this month’s Christians Against Poverty - Prayer Diary. A prayer written by Toni, who has come out of debt and found Jesus, is this week's theme. Within this prayer are these words, “Thank you for the rainbow within, thank you for the peace you bring.”
The same thing happened to me when I was baptised in the Holy Spirit. The very next day I noticed the colour of the flowers, the richness of all the creation around me. I had hardy noticed the seasons or the wild life before my encounter with the Holy Spirit.
There is a wonderful hymn which expresses this same truth -
“Heaven above is softer blue,
Earth around is sweeter green,
Something lives in every hue
Christless eyes have never seen:
Birds with gladder songs overflow,
Flowers with deeper beauties shine,
Since I know, as now I know,
I am His and He is mine.”
Jesus said, “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
Are you living a technicolour life, or have the demands of life drained you of the vibrance that is your birthright? You may need to be filled with the Holy Spirit for the first time, or seek a fresh outpouring into your life today.
