LIVE TRUSTING
20th Apr 2022
Jesus knew that He would have to die as a sacrificial Lamb to redeem mankind. The reality of this was not fully comprehended until Gethsemane where He faces the cost and the agony. The Cross with all its implications hit Him and we see His struggle - wanting to do the will of the Father, but shying away from the physical pain and agony. How does anyone face death without wanting to escape it?
Jesus knew the reason He was on earth, it may be that He had incremental understanding as He matured. However, in the synagogue in Nazareth He understands as He reads from Isaiah saying, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” How did He live everyday without dreading or fearing the Cross?
If you or I have a difficult situation or something ahead of us that is outside our comfort zone, it will probably dominate our thinking and influence our actions, always lingering in the back of our minds - but not so as we observe Jesus. He seems to be living in the present, in a place of rest and trust, and He waits for us to emulate Him.
What is the key to this kind of lifestyle? I believe it is a childlike trust in the goodness and ability of the Father. Children don’t think about how food appears on the table, or how the bills are paid. They live in the now, that’s adult responsibility and not on their horizon. Jesus tells us to become like little children in order to enter into the Kingdom of God. This is the essence of total expectancy directed towards God and an absence of worry that I believe we can cultivate and live in.
The more you know the Father and His character, the more you will trust in His goodness and favour towards you. Then rest becomes a possibility and you can live freely and lightly as Jesus demonstrated. Psalm 90:12 says, “Teach us to live wisely and well!”
Lord, teach me to live trusting you whatever lies ahead, knowing you will direct me whatever the circumstances. Let me live from a place of rest.
