LIVE IN THE "NOW"
05th Nov 2014
Is your life dominated by the regrets and disappointments of the past? Are your days filled with fear and dread of what may happen in the future? Do you find it impossible to enjoy today, because of all the things from the past and the future that are fighting for your mind?
God wants you to enjoy living in the wonder and blessing of “now”. I found this quote by the Danish theologian, Kierkegaard who spoke of our need, ‘to cram today with eternity and not with the next day’ and pondered how Jesus lived his final days ‘without anxiety’, he believed that it was because ‘he had eternity within him in the day that is called today, and therefore the next day had no power over him.’
There was plenty in the life of Jesus to spoil his ‘today’. He had spent 40 days with the devil in the wilderness; He had nearly been thrown over a cliff; He knew the pharisees and scribes were trying to trap him and kill him; His teaching was rejected by many as too demanding. And yet He walked in peace and joy and loved every minute of every day.
His promise to us is, “I have come that you might have life, and have it to the full.” The beginning of that verse tells us of the one who is trying to spoil our every waking moment. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” (John 10:10)
God has a destiny for every one of His children, it is a place of purpose and victory. It is not devoid of challenge, but ‘we are more than conquerors’ because we have the One who has gained the victory living inside of us.
Greet today with joy and anticipation for, “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1)
