LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE
31st Jul 2024
We have a railway line crossing the fields at the end of our garden. It is fun to watch the different compilations of engines and carriages. Every now and again something special like “The Flying Scotsman” will come past. Our neighbour texted on Sunday to say a steam train would go past just after nine am. We had a houseful of guests, and we all piled out into the garden to see the steam engine go by.
As we were going to bed later in the day, about to draw the curtains, we heard the very distinctive sound of a steam engine da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da and we looked out over the fields and in the darkness the flames were amazing. Earlier in the morning light it was and old set of carriages plus the steam engine, but in the darkness, with flames leaping out of the engine and a gleam of light from every carriage window - it was spectacular.
Jesus said, “The light shines in the darkness and the darkness can never put it out.” (John 1:5)
Later in the day we watched the Olympic swimming as Adam Peaty achieved a silver medal. He has a big tattoo on his chest with the words, “Into the Light” and a cross, signifying his personal faith. It was heart warming to hear tributes spoken spontaneously by Becky Adlington and Clare Balding. The healing light he has received from Jesus was certainly shining like the engine flames in a dark sky.
Jesus said, “Let you light so shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven.” (Matthew 5:16
