AT HOME IN HIS LOVE
08th Jun 2016
In John 15:9 in The Message, Jesus says, “Make yourselves at home in my love.” These are powerful words, the context reads, “I’ve loved you the way my Father has loved me. Make yourselves at home in my love. If you keep my commands, you’ll remain intimately at home in my love. That’s what I’ve done—kept my Father’s commands and made myself at home in his love.”
When we say, “I really feel at home here”, we are expressing something far more than our environment, we are speaking of love and relationship. Jesus was talking about the relationship He had with his Father, it was where he felt “at home”, but more than that He was inviting His disciples to make themselves at home in the Father’s love.
Are you “at home in his love”? Do you feel that you are surrounded by His love at all times? God’s love has a special quality that is unique. In John’s letter he writes, “How great is the love the Father has lavished upon us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”(1 John 3:1)
To be in God’s family is to be immersed in His love, it is a place of joy, safety, belonging and forgiveness. It is the birthright of every child of God. It heals us of rejection and is an antidote to loneliness, for Jesus said, “I’m not alone for my Father is with me.”
It is to live perpetually in an atmosphere of love. Scripture says, “Love covers over a multitude of sins.” also, “Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
To be “At home in His love” is to be in the safest place in the universe. In the troubled world in which we live, choose the right “home.”
