HEART TO HEART
15th Jun 2022
God wants an honest, in depth relationship with you. Heart to heart, face to face. He is not satisfied with anything less. David had such a relationship. I believe when God described him as “a man after My own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14) it was because David had learned to bare his heart, his emotions, his fears, his triumphs in a totally vulnerable manner before God, and God’s response was to love him and direct him.
Reading in 2 Samuel 22:21-25, two verses stood out to me, especially when reading the Message - v 21, “God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him.” Also v 25, “God rewrote the the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes.” Psalm 62:8 tells us to “pour out our hearts to him” for he is God.
Human relationships work when hearts are turned to each other; when we share honestly what’s going on. Sometimes words are hard to find, we don’t even know what we are struggling with. However, when we take time to share and when there is a listening ear, circumstances may not immediately change, but the burden will lift and you will know that you are not alone.
In 1 Samuel 30 - take David at Ziklag; he finds the city ransacked, his and many of the others wives have been captured. Devastated, he and those with him cry until they can cry no more. But David “finds strength in the Lord his God” he pours out his pain and distress and gets to a place where he can receive instructions.
He knows God will help him, he knows how to connect, calm down, receive comfort and then strategise. He’s real with God and God is his “help in trouble”. He doesn’t blame God, he simply turns to him and God is there for him.
When trouble comes, what do you do? Do you run to God, or away from Him? Do you talk to Him or bottle everything up inside?
Personally, I find relief comes when I get alone with God and tell Him everything - the good, the bad, and the ugly, and wait until He, by His Spirit listens, loves me, instructs me and brings me hope.
One time when I was very upset and struggling with many issues, I felt the Lord say, “Just sit there and let me scan you!” Words weren’t needed, but connection always is. Peace came and then I could tell Him all that was in my heart, followed by relief, joy and hope.
