GOD WHO SEES ME
14th Aug 2024
In Genesis we read about Hagar who is in a desperate situation, she is the woman who birthed Ishmael with Abraham as his father. Sarah, Abraham’s wife has refused to allow Hagar and Ishmael to remain in her household. She and the boy are taken into the desert, and the skin of water she left with has run out. Hagar is looking at a death situation. She cries out to God, and He answers by opening her eyes to see a well of water - her practical answer.
She responds to God in this way, “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the one who sees me.” (Genesis 16:13) I wonder what your response is to the One who sees you?
Psalm 33:14 in The Message says, “God sees all of Adam’s brood. From where he sits, He overlooks all us earth-dwellers. He has shaped each person in turn; now he watches everything we do.”
I remember, years ago, seeing a large framed tapestry with the text, “Thou O God seest Me” and feeling afraid! I thought God would see all the bad things in me and condemn and judge me. I no longer think like that. I’m glad God can see me; I’m thankful for His love, mercy and compassion. Thankful He sees what needs changing, where I need His help. Thankful that the blood of Jesus makes me clean and new, forgiven and greatly loved.
Jesus saw into the hearts of the men and women He came into contact with. He looked with eyes of love and compassion. He healed and spoke truth that led to changed lives.
I want Him to see me, to open my eyes, to co-operate with His Spirit, to receive His correction, to be healed and made free of anything that binds me. His seeing me has become very positive. When He corrects me, convicts me, showing something that needs changing, I’m so glad and can trust Him for His resources to deal with what is revealed.
His plan is to make you and I like Jesus.
