GOD'S SMILE

Having lived all my life on a westerly facing coast, it was a strange experience recently to spend a few days on the eastward facing Black Sea, where each day was greeted with the sunrise. During this very good summer here in UK we have enjoyed awaking to the sunshine a lot more than usual, which I am sure you will agree is always a blessing,
Psalm 80:7 says, “Restore us, O God Almighty; make your face shine upon us that we may be saved.” This verse in the Message says, “God, come back! Smile your blessing smile.” So whatever the weather, we can awake each day to the shining face of God upon our lives.
This also echoes the words of the Aaronic blessing of Numbers 6:24-26, “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you, the Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace.”
Each morning at the Black Sea we opened the curtains to see the sun rising and greeting another day of warmth and sunshine. In the same way we need daily to open the curtains of our lives on God’s blessing smile. There is never a dull day in God’s family, and whatever challenges may be going on in your life God’s face is shining upon you. It is not just a warm feeling, but with His smile comes wisdom, comfort, strength and courage.
I love the verse in Proverbs 4:18, “The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.” As believers we are the “righteousness of God in Christ Jesus” and therefore each day the light of God is shining into our hearts giving us understanding and encouragement as we face the daily challenges of life.
So as we wake up each day, let us say, “God, smile your blessing smile on me today!”
