GLORY
25th Jan 2017
When we went to view the house we now live in, the lady whose house it was told us, only this week, “When I met you Joyce I saw something immediately and knew that you had ‘something’ that I wanted.” (She didn’t say anything about me!) This lady was later to become a believer, and has been part of our church ever since.
What did she see? I believe it was ‘glory’ because Jesus said, “I have given them the glory that you gave me.” (John 17:22) This story was a surprise to us, we have lived here nearly 30 years and known this lady all this time, but this was the first time we had heard how our first encounter was so life changing.
Jesus prayed, “I have brought you glory on the earth by completing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.” (John 17:5) Throughout the time that Jesus spent on this earth His life at all times was displaying God’s glory. The people were astounded because he looked like everyone else until you looked a little deeper and then what you saw was “God glory.”
Jesus has given that glory to us, His disciples and followers, and it is our responsibility to let that glory shine. That is a challenge, because striving to be the best so often is aimed at focussing the glory on ourselves. We applaud those who through great dedication have won gold medals and accomplished great feats, but our responsibility is to live to let the glory shine on Jesus, not on us.
So what am I carrying around with me day by day, is it self-centredness, or other unresolved issues, or is it the ‘glory of God’.
