GIVING IS THE WAY TO BLESSING
04th Dec 2013
Luke 6:38 in The Message says, “Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back - given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting is the way. Generosity begets generosity.”
Whenever you give, in whatever sphere of life you create a space waiting to be filled. This past weekend has been busy, we have done a lot of giving; friends came for lunch on Saturday, we then spent some time celebrating a friend’s 60th birthday. On Sunday we left home before 9am and arrived back at 10pm; time had been spent talking, praying, preaching, fellowshipping and you might think we were tired - we weren’t, we were filled with joy and thanksgiving - satisfied. Why? Because the Bible says, “The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped.” It’s supernatural!
I have seen this principle work over and over again, personally and in others. Try it. If you’re feeling sad and lonely, ask God, “Who can I give to right now?” It could be a prayer, a phone call, a Facebook message. It could be asking someone for a coffee or a snack - the range of options is limitless. Even the deliberate act of thinking about someone other than yourself will change your day.
An old friend of ours had a “sowing pocket”, each day he put some money in this pocket and by the end of the day he had given it all away - he was creating space for God to bless and provide for him. He was a happy man who God trusted with great resources. You cannot out give God - He Himself is generous and loves to bless.
Find someone today to give to, and be surprised at the difference it makes to them and to you. Read 1 Kings 17:7-16 where Elijah asks a widow to give him her last meal, and find out what happened when she made space for God to demonstrate His abundance.
