FAVOUR
13th Apr 2022
We had a bit of a drama last week when our Central Heating Boiler was condemned and we had visitors coming at the weekend. We knew of a very good heating engineer and immediately phoned him with our plight. He came the same evening and gave us a very good quote, and then told us he had half of Thursday and Friday free and could fit the new boiler before the weekend. As our visitors arrived the job was complete - that’s the favour of God!
I believe that when we commit our lives to Jesus, are born again, receive His righteousness and seek to live to please Him, we live under God’s favour. It is the birthright of every believer. Psalm 5:12 says, “For surely, O Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favour as with a shield.”
Psalm 84:11 says, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favour and honour; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” So are we living in the expectation that in every part of life we will receive favour?
There are so many examples of those who received favour from the Lord. Ruth was not even an Israelite, but when she chose to follow Naomi back to her home, she received amazing favour. She was surprised and said, “Why have I found such favour in your eyes that you notice me - a foreigner?” (Ruth 2:10)
The angel appeared to Mary with these words, “Greetings, you who are highly favoured! The Lord is with you.” (Luke 1:28) Elizabeth declared she has received God’s favour as she was enabled to conceive John the Baptist.
It says of the new believers in Acts 2:46, “They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people.”
Are you living under God’s favour? Do you expect to be treated with generosity and favour in all your dealings with others? God loves to pour out His blessings on His children, just as we love to bless our own children. Don’t settle for less than God’s best!
