THE FAITH LEVEL
09th Oct 2019
When I was working with Colin Urquhart and we were travelling to various parts of UK, often after the meeting Colin would ask the team, “What did you reckon the “faith level” was tonight?”, because that would be the measure of how much God was able to do.
On one occasion, we were in Cornwall for a Renewal Teaching weekend, and as Colin concluded the Friday night meeting he announced to the congregation, “I’m not praying for anyone tonight because the faith level is so low I doubt that anything will happen.” That drew a stunned silence as the crowd dispersed.
Colin & Caroline were staying in our home, and the following morning we had a crisis as our nine year old daughter Jo had molten lead explode in her face, and as she came screaming through the door with her face and eyes covered in lead, Joyce turned to Colin and said, “Please, Colin will you pray for these eyes?” After prayer and a morning resting in bed Jo emerged at lunch time with eyes perfect and the whites like snow!
That evening as this testimony was spoken out, faith rose and the atmosphere of the meeting was transformed. After the word was given and Colin declared that “Nothing is impossible with our God” folk streamed forward for prayer, and God did mighty things. For years we kept hearing testimonies of amazing miracles that had happened that night.
Jesus experienced the same situation in Nazareth as the people were full of unbelief. It says in Mark 6:5-6, “He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few people and heal them. And he was amazed at their lack of faith.”
In the parable about the judge in Luke 18, Jesus told his disciples that, “They should always pray and not give up” after declaring God willingness to answer prayer, He concluded by saying, “When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
What is your faith level? It does not remain static, or the disciples would have never asked Jesus, “Lord, increase our faith?” (Luke 17:5)
I am challenged myself even as I have written about miracles in the past. Where is my faith level today? What I am doing to feed faith and banish doubt and fear? What was the last miracle I saw God do?
