ARE YOU "DOWN IN THE DUMPS?"
04th Sep 2013
David said, “When my soul is in the dumps, I rehearse everything I know of you.” (Psalm 42:6 The Message) David knew a thing or two about battles with enemies and friends! He had plenty of criticism and people who asked, “Where is your God?” He experienced disappointment and betrayal, but he chose to rehearse all he knew of God’s help in the past. He also learned to actively proclaim that what he had experienced in the past, God would do again in the future.
But the waiting is the hard part, when tears and frustration can rob us of faith and send us into a downward spiral. But God’s promises never fail, they are a rock-like foundation to stand on while we wait for God to act.
I knew a boy who suffered with severe eczema, he was tormented with sores that bled and irritated. Getting to sleep at night was difficult as the warmth of the bed increased the discomfort. His parents had received a promise from the Lord that he would be completely healed, but the waiting was tough. Why was there time delay? Why the continued suffering? Questions kept coming, but the promise remained and they stood strong.
God is faithful, and the day arrived when healing came and the eczema left - his skin returned to normal! Today it is a fading memory in the life of a man of God. The eczema caused many to cry out to God on behalf of this child, he was soaked in prayer for a long time. But God heard, and not only healed, but also called and anointed this young man into ministry.
“Down in the dumps?” because of unresolved situations, because of trials and difficulties? Keep rehearsing all you know of God and remember His ways are not always our ways - but “He is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all he has made.” (Psalm 145:13)
