BEING BLESSED
30th May 2018
Psalm 1 sets out some basic principles for being blessed.
Verse 1 in New Living Translation says, “Blessed is the one who does not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners or join in with mockers.”
3 things - First, who is giving input into your life? Is it coming from the media, are you being influenced by fearful words coming from fearful people? So much that we hear on the news causes us to become unsettled and insecure.
Secondly, who are your friends? The people we spend the most time with have the most influence on our lives. Do your friends build you up, do they encourage you? Do they make you feel happy and peaceful, do they lift you up or do they drag you down?
Thirdly, what are you saying to those around you, and what are your friends saying to you? Does it build you up? Does it strengthen your faith? Does it draw you closer to Jesus? Or, are your words negative, do they speak ill of others? Are you the kind of person everyone wants to be around?
Verse 2 says, “But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.” Are you getting enough of God’s Word into your life every day? Are you taking hold of God’s promises and letting them fill your mind and meditating on them at all times? What fills you mind is so important, I heard someone say “Fear is meditating on the devil’s lies.”
Verse 3 speaks of the consequences of living this way, “They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season, Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”
If you are not living in blessing, check out where your advice and wisdom is coming from, is there enough Word in your life? What people are you surrounding yourself with, are they building you up or tearing you down? What is coming out of your mouth and what are you listening to?
