ASK, SEEK, FIND
05th May 2021
Our Father God encourages us to ask Him for His help. His provision, His wisdom - in fact whatever we need. He loves to give and is always attentive to our cries for help! However, so often we fail to turn to Him, choosing independent action and self effort. To see the Kingdom of God we need to become like little children, expecting help, trusting and relying on the goodwill of a Father to whom we are very precious, the apple of his eye!
Caleb’s daughter Aksah understood this, and after she had been given in marriage to Caleb’s brother Othniel, who had conquered Kiriath Sepher, he encouraged her to ask her father for land and also for springs of water. She had no problem in asking. (Joshua 15:13-19)
When she approached her father it was with confidence and expectancy, and she was rewarded with exactly what she petitioned from him. We know that Caleb was a godly man who followed the Lord wholeheartedly, and this would have been reflected in the way he raised his family. So the daughter came to him expecting love, understanding and help. His greeting when she approached was, “What can I do for you?”
We are encouraged to come boldly to our heavenly Father. Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
James 1:3-8 in the Message encourages us to ask boldly, “If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought.”
James 4:2-3 says, “You do not have because you do not ask of God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives.”
Jesus encouraged us, “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” (Mark 11:24)
So do we? And if not, why not?
