GOD - WE ALWAYS NEED YOU
23rd Aug 2017
Can you look back at a time when you were in an extremely difficult situation, you cried out to God with everything you had, and saw Him do an amazing thing for you? Now, can you remember a situation which was nothing like as tough, so you decided to resolve it using your own wisdom and fell flat on your face?
I was reminded of this when reading in Chronicles. King Asa was completely outnumbered as the Ethiopians attacked the Israelites, but he cried out to the Lord and God gave him the victory. (2 Chronicles 14:8-15) The prophet Abijah came to Asa to remind him of the principle, “The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek him he will be found by you.” Later it states, “But when you were in trouble and got serious, and decided to seek God, the God of Israel, God let himself be found.”
The situation looked impossible, the enemy overwhelming and the resources at Asa’s command pathetic; but when he went to God he was rescued and could not be defeated.
However, another situation arises and Asa decides he is going to make a treaty with the king of Aram to help against an enemy. Now this time Hanani the prophet comes to Asa and says, “Because you went for help to the king of Aram and didn’t ask God, you’ve lost a victory...” (2 Chronicles 16:7).
When we know we are up against impossible odds, the only place to go is to God. When the trials seem more trivial it is as if we do not want to bother God. We might say, “He couldn’t be interested in something so small.” The truth is that is nothing too small for God and nothing is too hard for the Lord.
I am reminded of the words of a well known hymn:
Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer.
